Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce

This recipe called for starting with ketchup. I just started with tomatoes, added the spices from my ketchup recipe, then added the spices from the BBQ sauce. The results were fantastic!

INGREDIENTS

6lbs fresh - de-seeded tomatoes (or 4 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes)
1cup water
1cup white sugar
2cups dark brown sugar
1/2cup molasses
1 1/2cup distilled white vinegar
1/2cup apple cider vinegar
2teaspoons onion powder
1tablespoon garlic powder
1/4teaspoon celery salt
1/2teaspoon ground cloves
2tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
5 1/4teaspoons ground mustard
4teaspoons smoked paprika
1/2 to 1teaspoon cayenne pepper (use less if you don't like the heat)
2tablespoons canning salt (or regular salt if you are freezing instead of canning)
1teaspoon finely ground black pepper
1 to 2tablespoons liquid smoke (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1.Cut tomatoes in half and place in crock pot overnight.
2.Run a stick blender through tomatoes.
3.Run resulting mixture through a food mill.
4.Combine all the remaining ingredients with the tomato sauce in a large sauce pot.
5.Bring to a boil and reduce and simmer, making sure all the sugar has dissolved.
6.Simmer until desired thickness is reached.
7.Serve immediately or place in pint jars leaving 1/2 inch head space. Water bath can for 20 minutes.
